  1. A new cover for one of Louise Coppers most breathtaking trilogies has emerged, its on Mundania.com coming soon list, Its the cover for Star Ascendant, and well again I'm kinda confused to whom that really is.

I am absolutely thrilled excited and blown away that this trilogy is being brought back so many more people can read it and BELEIVE ME its something you do not want to miss. Its a set of books that will leave you breathless.

But... I do kinda have issues on the cover, if that's Benetan Liss well... his hair was black wans't it? and if its Vordegh well his attire is a bit too flashy for an aesthetic. Plus the belt... i gotta talk about the belt... it looks like a paint pallet not shining gorgeous Chaos stones, and PLEASE don't tell me that's Savrinor! (personal opinion yes but... I just might have to shed a tear if that's it) What do you all think?

  2. Hi, Eve,

Umm... it's Benetan. I must have been having a serious senior moment, because I didn't pick up the fact that he doesn't have black hair in the illustration! The other two covers will feature Andraia and (I think, though it's not finalised) Simbrian. As always, I asked for the Chaos lords not to be depicted, and for this trilogy I extended the request to Savrinor, too, as he's one of my all-time favourite characters and I want to keep my own very specific mental image of him. I suspect you might agree with that sentiment! :-)

  3. Oook its Benetan that's a sigh of relief cause well yeah I guard my mental image of Savrinor Indeed I do :D Only thing I've been able to make myself do is sketch Savrinor's study.
Andraia is gonna be a challenge to make I suspect, and I'm so very tempted to buy these books just for their visual appeal, gotta love them. Difficulty would be that I bought number 14 :)) of the Initiate and I wanted to buy#14 in all books beginning each trilogy, sadly my pocket won't agree with me at the moment :(, hopefully it will wait out :D

I know I post about Book 8 of Indigo quite a bit, but the cover of the book doesn't make much sense. Indigo is riding with sword held aloft - but she never uses a sword!!! Where is her crossbow?

  5. I agree! I didn't see that cover until I was presented with it as a 'fait accompli', and I was none too pleased! (At least the UK cover depicted a shipwreck, which was relevant to the story.) It's one of the hazards of writing; with a few honourable exceptions, publishers tend to go right ahead and commission covers without reference to the author - or even, on occasion, to the content of the book! Many years ago I wrote a vampire novel called 'Blood Summer'. It was set in present-day Cornwall(near St Ives, for the record)and did NOT have any gothic mansions, shroud-wrapped corpses or bats in it. What appeared on the cover? A gothic mansion, a shroud-wrapped animated corpse with long canines, and a whole army of bats!!! *Sigh* :-))

Interesting, I just read The King's Demon for the first time and realised that Sefira was definitely NOT wearing a bright red dress when she was found...although kudos to whoever drew it for getting her hair length right...I must say though I prefer the new The King's Demon cover to the old one, which scared me a little...

The important thing is the cover doesn't detract from the content of the book! :-)

I think collecting all the different covers I wanted for all of Louise's books caused my book mania. I picked up The Initiate when it was newly published in a bookshop while on vacation. When I got home I started trying to find the other books. This was in the early 1990s long before home Internet use was widespread so I drove around to stores, called stores. Somehow I ended up with information to Powell's in Oregon. I live in Virginia but they were happy to find Louise's books and send them to me. Once I got a bit older and got a computer I discovered how fun it was to hunt down rare books on the Internet. But some of the covers ended up being disappointing. I mostly remember receiving the Chaos Gate trilogy and shuddering at the romance novel covers. I mean Fabio was on the cover of The Pretender!! I now have much lovelier copies published by Grafton. I love that the Chaos Lords and Savrinor will never be depicted. The illustrations would never live up to my imaginings.

I still quite like the Chaos Gate covers!
    ...
Actually I think I was more impressed that I got my hands on a copy of them and through that excitement, wouldn't have cared if Tarod was depicted on the front cover as a pock-marked hunchback in a bright purple jumpsuit and a yellow jester hat with bells on it.

  9. What???? Now, why didn't I think of that? :-)))

Seriously, Fabio as Yandros was pretty gruesome. But I liked the other two US Chaos Gate covers, especially The Avenger - fabulous colours. Can't agree with you about the Grafton editions, though; I was (and astill am) very unhappy with those.

Have you seen the French CG editions, published by Bragelonne? I love those! Ygorla really does look the gorgeous Queen of Mean - so much so that my editor asked if he could have her 'phone number! Needless to say, I warned him off; he's much too nice a guy to get involved with her! :-)

Hello, everyone! I'm John from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and this is my first post. I have the TOR mass market paperbacks of the Time Master trilogy. I absolutely love the covers and have ever since I first read them. My parents didn't approve of fantasy novels, so I had to sneak them home from the library (I have since convinced them of fantasy's worthiness). Sixteen years later I've read the trilogy five more times. I finally found copies of my own, so I could stop checking them out of the library. In any case, I have been considering getting tattoos of covers of The Outcast and The Master as mementos of one of my favorite works. I'd love to hear Ms. Cooper's opinion of those covers.

  11. It's a beautiful cover. Although, I love the original ones too.

  12. Hi, John, and welcome!
I think the Time Master covers you mention are the original ones, created by Robert Gould, and I agree - they are superb! I met Robert on one of his visits to the UK around (mumble!) years ago - and met him again last week at the Trolls et Legendes fantasy festival in Belgium (lots to tell everyone about that - I'll be posting on the News page in the next day or two). What a wonderful artist...

I've been wanting a seven-ray star tattoo in homage to Louise for quite some time now; however the problem is I'm afraid of needles.
