Somethings are just worth writing about.

After 4 long years of searching for the elusive books of the prequel to Time Master I finally stumbled on the very last: Moonset. (funny that it was so short after I posted here)

Getting into the trilogy: The first book (Star ascendant) lured you into the second, its story was so enticing, the characters so defined and intriguing, you had to simply run through oceans to see what happened next. Getting Eclipse was not so difficult as it was expensive, but it was worth every cent. The story grew, characters solidified and it sank in to the very depths of your mind. It drove me half insane to have to wait so long to get the last book (nearly a year after I got the 2nd) I was even ripped off and bought a copy that never got to me.
When it was in my hands I trembled and could not believe it, for a few hours I simply didn't want to begin it in fear of what I would find. I got over my initial shock and doubts and poured into it, every chapter change brought my emotions higher, my imagination soaring as the story evolved and I with it. Every page was perfectly orchestrated, every dialogue took a life of its own, defining the very energy of its characters. It brought home to my mind intricacies whims and quirks about the gods themselves that broadened my view and made my affection grow for them and their future plights.
The story made all other books in this magnificent world come into sharper focus, every line and explanation deepened my involvement within. Even the castles stones seemed to become more real in my mind and take its very foundations into my own. Its characters reached to me as others never had, Savrinor and Andraia leaped out of the pages and reached out to me to tell their sorry tale.
But above all what gripped me tighter than anything else was the end, today nearly a week after I finished reading it, the emotive, pure feeling that it evoked in me is still there ever so strong. For lack of better words I can only describe it as a feeling of deep sorrow, loss or a type of pity. (I don't wish to ruin this book for anyone so I wont get in to details about the end) But simply the closing words the closing scenes seemed so real, deep. I must admit I cried at that last chapter, before the epilogue, it left me breathless and in a state of such akin feeling that it took me a while to stir again. Things done, things that weren't, wishes for the future, missions and hopes just seemed to be so within reach, again I can still feel the small worm of pain for that.

I was surprised at the strength of my emotions with this book, and maybe the difficulty I had obtaining it added its own spice. But in the end all I can conclude its the all 3 books are a masterpiece in writing, and even if many may disagree, but my point of view is that it rivals the Time Master trilogy almost but not quite surpassing it.
I thank you Louise greatly for letting us all into a deeper part of this world with these magnificent books.

My name is Lu and I'm an operating system designer and IT technician in Lynnwood, Washington USA north of Seattle. I stumbled across Louise's books with Nemesis of the Indigo series. I'm still reading that series as I am waiting for one of them to become available in a used paperback somewhere before I finish it. I have most of the rest of Louise's works, but one thing at a time. I'll be reading the Time Master books next.

I love to sing, which I do every weekend, and I also write a bit myself. 24 novel length books and an uncountably large number of short stories. All fantasy and based on whatever notion happens to pop into my head that day.

Louise, have you thought of recovery software for those floppies? There are a multitude of them available online. Many of them should be able to regain your lost bits of data on those floppies.

If you are using a Windows computer, I might recommend BadCopy Pro. It is almost always capable of reading unreadable floppy disks.

Of course, I am assuming that you do want to recover them?

I am glad your curiosity is piqued. Nothing but good can come of it.
I am also glad to hear that you are considering posting a short story, should you write one, here on the site for us all to enjoy.
I may have to restrain myself from reading it until after I have completed my collection and finished reading the series. Or break down and actually read Aisling without having read the others first. I hesitate to do so, but I should not want to miss out on the opportunity to read another Indigo and Grimya tale as soon as it is available.

Now you have ME intrigued.

Do I believe in mermaids? Well... let's say that although I've never seen one, that doesn't mean they don't exist. There are enough legends around the world to make the possibility pretty likely. Living where I do in Cornwall, close to the sea, makes it easier to believe, too. I tried asking the dolphins, but they didn't give me an answer...

Hi, Kirby - and welcome to my website! I'm delighted that you're enjoying the MERMAID CURSE series so much. The fourth and last book of the series will be published in October, and a "taster" chapter will appear on the site soon. I've just got to decide which chapter is the most exciting :-))

Have you come across the SEA HORSES series, which I wrote before the Mermaids books? I have a sneaking feeling that you'll enjoy those, too. (There's nothing like authors giving their own books a plug, is there?)

Hi!! my name is Ariadna and I'm from Mexico but I've been living in Argentina for the past 3 years. It's great to see that we're all from very different places yet we have a lot in common! I first found out about the Time Master trilogy just soon after arriving in Buenos Aires, so I've been pretty much a big fan of Louise since then!! I'm trying to read as many of her books as I can find, but some of them are really hard to find!! I'm really looking forward to reading "Lord of no Time", so I'm just waiting for it to be available on the online shop =) and what else? I'm currently studying Tourism, and I love reading, movies, music, travelling, etc!

An update.... That's not entirely a bad idea, though one would think it might necessarily be more of a stand-alone novel or a short story rather than part of the series. The series was based on a particular conflict that has since been resolved.

Your idea has merit. I do like the personalities of those two characters and would like to see more of them. Certainly Indigo's many years held more stories and adventures than just those related to her quest. Perhaps Louise could be convinced to tell one or two of them?

*cringes*
I never said Aeoris wasn't hot. Aeoris is da bomb. I love reading those beautiful descriptions of him. But they all look the same, whereas with the Chaos lords you get variety. Never said he weren't hot...

I don't really see Chaos as being the benevolent force in any of the stories. Tarod is kind of an anti-hero, and very villainous in Time Master. In the Star Shadow trilogy, Order are more presented as the good guys. It depends on how long one side has been in power as to who the good guys/bad guys are. When Chaos is in power, Order are the heroic rebellion, and vice versa.
However, when the power is supposed to be equal, such as Chaos Gate and Daughter of Storms, I still like Chaos more. In DOS, Order was willing to sacrifice various people, but Chaos' more human edge led to their redemption. In CG, Order thought they could truly destroy Chaos even though they had reached the Equilibrium agreement centuries ago. Chaos never thought (as far as we are led to believe) to attempt to destroy Order once the Equilibrium was met. Chaos just does things more subtly...

It's kind of like: well you can't really take one side and say they are the good guys or the bad guys because it's more complex; it's various shades of grey, there is benevolence and malevolence in both sides. I mean, Tarod' favourite trick is making people go mad: is that really the mark of a good guy? Yet he is clearly our hero in TM.

Merry, I also suggest you read the Chaos Gate Trilogy *no spoilers*: there you might find what you are looking for.

Funny enough I always try not to think: good guy bad guy in the world of Chaos and Order, sine I am a lover of bad guys. Usually I'm the one rooting for that team and getting pommeled by the vast crowds that cheer for the other.
But on these books I fell deeply in love with Chaos, Tarod's character was of huge help :-) But Yandros sealed the bargain for me, not to mention Savrinor...but thats another topic ^_^.

On another note Hmmm... i gotta agree with you Drachea in the sense that yep Aeoris is hot. And very, having a huuuuge pull towards white haired characters that was just so strong a pull to ignore. Add a bit of his arrogance and I should be gone and pledged to Order...but... being so predictable and inflexible looses its appeal after a while. Unlike being Mercurial (sigh...) now that never gets sour.

Merry talking about a world where "Order had to save someone from Chaos, of course to protect their own interests...perhaps a touch of compassion for the human race after all...it just opens some amazing idea possibilities" following this train of thought You MUST read the prequel to time master: The Star Shadow trilogy. Chaos here is seen under a completely different light and they become the bad guys (Since it was a prequel to the Time master, keep in mind that this was the time of The Old ones, as they where called, therefore Chaos held sway in the world) You'd love it!

Louise, I can send you links to data recovery software that can assist you in recovering those floppies. Even ones that have been subjected to magnetism can be recovered at least 80% of the time. Let me know what operating system you use and I'll send you in the right direction.

I, for one, am most interested in a re-release of the Indigo series. I am a collector of all of your works and I am having an extremely difficult time getting my hands on that series. I have all but one of them and they are used and not altogether in great condition. If I could get them in new condition I would certainly buy them all. Two sets. One to read and the other for my shelf of untouched originals.

If you do re-release them in any format, please do not change them. I am reading them in order and I am waiting for Avatar to become available before I read the remaining books of the series. I would like to read them as they were originally written.

What would be really intriguing is to have some books written with the Lords of Order in play to get a different perspective....as Anne Rice did with Interview with a Vampire written from Louis' perspective and The Vampire Lestat written from Lestat's. Since Order and Chaos are different sides of the same coin to explore an adventure with the other side would be very interesting. (One of my best friends always loved Order while I always had more the personality to relate to Chaos...yet we managed...) Perhaps an incident where Order had to take the lead, because Chaos couldn't or heresy! Order had to save someone from Chaos, ofcourse to protect their own interests...Perhaps too there is more to Order then we see, for all their seeming rigidity...perhaps a touch of compassion for the human race after all...it just opens some amazing idea possibilities...

The Time Master books are to this day one of my favorite reads of all time...if not my favorite fantasy books. I can understand how Michael Moorcock was inspirational, as the Stormbringer series are another set on my shelf...and Elric was very intriguing....though I prefer the first books to the later. Another good read for anyone and I think Louise too is the Cold Fire Trilogy by C.S. Friedman...with the antihero Gerald Tarrant...

And Storm... where did you get the idea that Aeoris isn't hot anyway!?! I mean... Louise is rather generous when describing his holly image. And "severe" does not mean ugly.
And you are right... the Chaos bunch has a lot of varieties. Hey! they even have Cyllan... because they kill their own brother. OH... That was sort of neat of them now that I come to think of it.
Good job there!

Well Louise its sort of fun but I would hope people would be less "predictable". I mean it is clear Chaos is the "good guy" in the story, and that completely fine, I am ok with Order being the antagonists in fact.
But why cant anyone relate on the bad guys anyway? I mean you created damn good "bad guys" and I am positive you learned to love them for what they represent, am I right? You did not create bullies, boring stereotypes for the bad guys. They all had reasons, something to stand for, ambitions, pride, wrath, LOVE... and a lot more. And yet, I feel people can not see that. And just because they are in the "unpopular group"? Just because they are "bad"?
I would really like someone as open minded as me to step out for the "bad guys". Because they CERTAINLY RULED your books.
And that makes you my favourite writer ever.

Yes, it was the HarperCollins one! And I still have the Allen & Unwin Robert Gould covers.
I could tell who the characters were on the Mundania covers, I just imagined them differently. But it is always nice to see someone else's interpretations of what you have imagined a character to look like. Of course for me it's not so much that I have a very definite image of what they look like in my head (otherwise I would make a disastrous attempt to capture it somehow on paper), but just ideas and feelings and emotions I associate with the names as I read.

But I like the idea of the characters being on the covers - especially if they look better than I ever imagined them.

Ah - I suspect your "Colin Firth as Heathcliff" cover was the same as my "Ross Poldark" - i.e., the HarperCollins UK paperback (as opposed to the original, Allen & Unwin UK version with the fabulous Robert Gould covers).

What do you reckon on the Mundania covers? I think they were the ones Drachea meant when he mentioned the "3d" ones. I rather like 'em; though he's right when he says that Cyllan should be more gamine looking. The figure on The Master was painted by a different artist to The Initiate and The Outcast (awful grammar, but you know what I mean...:-)). I've seen the cover rough for Mundania's forthcoming edition of "Sacrament of Night", and it's absolutely *stunning* - exactly what I would have created if I could draw or paint. It'll be fascinating to see what everyone else thinks in due course.

I could get about 10 chapters on to one floppy disc, so I ended up with a vast heap of them! And of course, unlike CDs, floppies were very vulnerable to corruption if they were left anyway near a magnetic field. I suspect that my original discs have suffered that fate; whenever I've tried to read one with my present operating system, it says something like "You HAVE to be joking!" :-)

And thanks for your input on the "re-write or not" question, Storm...

<This is a Louise Cooper message board.>

Louise is a highly successful and amazing writer who tells the most magnificent stories in the most interesting way. Anyone attempting to take her original characters or worlds and retelling their story should do so in a way that is clearly labelled "fanfiction": otherwise yes, it is blasphemy.

Drachea: You are telling Chaos to act like gods - however it is against their very nature to be told what to do. They will behave how they like, and it often leads them to act in ways different to how people expect: this is what makes them Chaos - unpredicatable, wild, *chaotic*.
As for the Cyllan thing - I find it offensive that you suggest a god should only be attracted to Cyllan because of her looks: it happened with Sashka, and see where that led? Tarod fell in love with Cyllan for many reasons. There is SO MUCH MORE to that girl than her looks: she has courage, spunk, ability, loyalty - none of these things Sashka, a great beauty, had. I think that is the lesson Louise was teaching us - that you do not have to be beautiful to be a god.

That is why I like Chaos more - because they are more in touch with humans and have our interests at heart.
And Tarod is so sexy, how can you possibly prefer Aeoris and his clones to the Chaos Lords?
